Featured Profile OMNI Graduate

Before coming to OMNI College, Suzie was a Registered Nurse in Korea for 20 years. This is her story:

“Before I came to OMNI, I had worked in a hospital as an RN in Korea for 20 years. The environment where I was working in Korea was very competitive, and it was necessary to continue studies through out your professional career, always updating your qualifications.

One day I read an advertisement in a Korean Nurses news paper about the worldwide issue regarding the shortage of qualified nurses. I was interested and excited about the thought of moving to Canada, but it was definitely not an easy decision. I thought about it again and again. I asked many questions to OMNI College through email and over long distance telephone calls. They gave me qualified answers and details about both the English program and their RN Licensure Preparation Program for Foreign Nurses. The greatest incentive for me to choose OMNI and move to Canada was that if I study there, the government in Canada would provide free educational opportunities for my children.

Also, if I worked as a Canadian RN, I can apply for permanent residency with my family through the Provincial Nominee Program. This helped me to make the decision to move, and today I am so glad we made the decision as it is so fantastic living in Vancouver!!!

While studying in OMNI, I really enjoyed the RN Licensure Preparation Program. Especially the medical presentations, they helped me to practice my English. Visual education class was also helpful because it helped me to understand the Canadian culture and local hospital environment. My instructor gave me not only plenty of nursing knowledge, but also her super emotional support. I will never forget her. I also met many international nurses who had the same goal as mine, and I learned about their different cultures. We shared information, feelings, our experiences being new to Canada, and we also enjoyed some great parties together!

The most important thing I gained from OMNI was my self-confidence as a Canadian nurse - I am so happy now!

For any student considering OMNI College, I would say to them that if you have the will there is always a way. Don’t ever say you “can’t”, because OMNI College will help you become the next Canadian nurse!!”
