Featured Profile OMNI Graduate

Menbere immigrated to Canada in 2003 from Ethiopia. She was a Registered Nurse in her home country, but when she came to Canada her RN credentials were not recognized so she was not able to practice as an RN in Canada. While she was able to work in the health care field, she was limited to the capacity of Housekeeping Aide and Care Aide. Her true nursing skills were being underutilized.

For 2 years she focused on working hard to survive and at the same time studied very hard to become an RN in Canada. She found it difficult to study on her own in preparing for the CRNE, so she decided to take a trial lesson at OMNI College. Menbere was very satisfied with the way the RN Licensure Preparation Program at OMNI College was being taught, so we decided to enroll in the Program.
Today, Menbere is working happily full-time as a Registered Nurse for Vancouver General Hospital. She also works as a casual RN for the Dr. Peter Centre.
When we asked Menbere a few questions about her experience at OMNI College, this is what she wrote:

“The Program at OMNI College is very suitable for foreign-trained nurses. I learned a great deal about Canadian nursing through the Program, as well as gained the full confidence I needed to pass the CRNE. Through OMNI’s help, I was well prepared and passed the CRNE on the first attempt.

I can’t thank enough my nursing teacher Louise for her devotion, patience, caring, thoughtfulness, and unreserved support she gave to me from day 1. I know that she genuinely cares about our success.

I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my other nursing instructor – April, and my English IELTS Test Prep Instructor - Darlene. I learned so much from them and I don’t know if any other school has the same quality of instructors as at OMNI. All the instructors at OMNI are RNs, and they shared with us their own real work experiences. We all enjoyed learning about our different cultural and nursing backgrounds. I still keep in touch with OMNI, the instructors and all of my classmates. It really felt like a family-oriented, team environment where we all were striving for the same goal.

The 3 most important things I gained from OMNI College were:
1. my ability to communicate well in a Nursing environment
2. self confidence
3. team work

These are all really very necessary to me in my daily nursing practice.
OMNI College is the right place and the right path with talented, experienced, and devoted professionals that help you realize your dream. If you want to succeed in becoming an RN in Canada, don’t hesitate to join the Program at OMNI. You will learn a lot about Canadian Nursing and see your personal progress from day to day. It is much, much more than just exam preparation!”
