Overview

Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) is an assessment tool designed to assess the English language proficiency of internationally-educated nurses who are applying for licensure in the nursing profession in Canada.

CELBAN has been recognized by nursing licensing bodies across Canada.

Who the Program is for
If you completed your nursing education in another country and you speak English as a second language, you may want to consider taking the CELBAN. The CELBAN has been endorsed by most RN, RPN and all LPN licensing bodies across Canada as an acceptable option to demonstrate your level of English language proficiency for licensure. The CELBAN will evaluate your proficiency level in all four skill areas (speaking, listening, writing and reading).

Course Goal

  • To improve English Language competency in order top prepare candidates to write the CELBAN Exam.  

* Note: successful completion of this program does not guarantee a passing grade on the CELBAN test.

Our Instructors
Our instructors bring a wealth of education and experience into the classroom.  Our instructional staff and supervisors are regarded as the most valuable assets to the College as they are ultimately responsible for the quality of education of our students, leading them through proven test preparation exercises and yet providing an individual approach to maximize each student's potential.

Course Outline
Emphasis will be on daily intensive practice that will give that will give students personalized help in identifying their strengths and weaknesses and in improving their English language proficiency and confidence level in preparation for the CELBAN Examination.

Students will sit weekly practice tests under simulated exam conditions, and be provided with competency scores based on exam criteria, weekly computerized graphs that chart progress and with personalized comments to guide hem in improving competency level. 

Students will participate weekly in one-on-one interviews with the instructor, which simulates the actual exam situation.  Each student will be provided with an audio tape along with detailed written assessment of strengths and weaknesses including suggestions on how to improve.

Students will participate in a variety of supplementary exercises to deepen their understanding of English and related medical vocabulary, as well as completing on-line assignments to reinforce the skills covered in daily lessons.

Students will be asked to maintain, and, submit for instructor's comments, a Response Journal in which they complete daily entries to identify personal goals and action plans.

Admission Requirements
IAlthough there are no formal eligibility requirements CELBAN test prep, it is recommended that applicants take the online CELBAN readiness test to provide an assessment measurement.  

Program Length and Fees; 4 weeks full time
Program Tuition: $1,200 CDN
(there is a non-refundable application fee due at the time of application. For local students, the application fee is $100. For international students, the fee is $200)
